Eat Healthy at the Movies

One of the hardest places to maintain healthy eating habits is at the movies. Movie theater snack bars tend to have nothing but candy and salty, buttery, popcorn. Here are some ways you can continue your healthy eating habits while watching a flick.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If your local movie theater does not sell bottled water, be sure to bring your own. Be discreet by hiding it in your jacket or purse. The sodas or even fruit punches and iced teas are very high in sugar. Avoid ordering any of those drink choices, but if you have no other option, order a diet soda.

  2. Step 2

If you must order popcorn, do not add any salt or butter flavored topping. That will add sodium and extra calories you don't need. You'll be happy to discover that it tastes just fine without it.

  3. Step 3

Many movie theaters offer chocolate covered raisins as an option. Those are always a better choice than other chocolates. Dark chocolate, if available, is also better for you than milk chocolate.

  4. Step 4

Some theaters are now offering fruit snacks, made with real fruit juice, as an options. While they still contain sugar, they are most certainly a healthier choice than the sugar filled gummy snacks we all love so much.

  5. Step 5

If you are brave, bring your own snacks and risk getting caught. Unsalted, raw nuts are a great alternative to popcorn. Also, frozen yogurt with carob chips will fill you up without weighing you down. Multi-grain crackers or even a sandwich are all better options than the hot dogs, nachos and Slushees that have become a part of the movie-going ritual. It's risky, but the scale will thank you tomorrow.
