If you like big, soft pretzels -- the ones you can get at a ballgame or fair -- you can make them at home and enjoy them hot and fresh from the oven. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 tbsp. salt
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 1 1/4 tsp. Sugar
  • Coarse pretzel salt

Instructions

      Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Meanwhile, cover a cookie sheet with foil & sprinkle it lightly with flour.

      Soften the yeast in the warm water, then add the salt and sugar. Add 4 cups of flour and mix well to make dough.

      Place the dough on a flat surface that has been covered with a thin layer of flour. Knead the dough until it is smooth, but do not let it rise.

      Cut the dough immediately into small pieces, roll them into pencil thin ropes and twist them into pretzel-shaped knots.

      Place the pretzels on the cookie sheet and brush them with beaten egg. Sprinkle them with the coarse pretzel salt.

      Bake at 400 for 15 minutes or until light brown.

Tips & Warnings

  • Kids love to help make these pretzels.

  • Don't overcook them, they will be black on the bottom and not as soft.
