1. As soon as you know your travel plans has changed call your hotel.
2. Request money back. Look at the small print on your reservation email to find out the time line you need to follow to get your money back.
3. Hotels will usually give refunds to travelers that had to change plans due to a hospitalization or death in family. Some will require written proof but most will not, as long as the hotel reservations was canceled before early evening of your expected arrival.
4. If you do not meet qualifications above to get a refund, just ask. Make sure you are short and sweet to the hotel desk clerk. If they are unable to help you, request to talk to the manager in a positive tone. You may have to call back at a different time, or they may call you back.
