The first year of college can be overwhelming. Increased difficulty and more independence can leave some people feeling disorganized. Here are a few tips on how to manage time during the first year of college.

  1. Step 1

    The first step to successfully managing time is to understand what you are wasting time on. Write down how much time you spend doing various tasks for a week, and then analyze your data. Once you have analyzed your data, try to trim out the fat. try to minimize time that is wasted.

  2. Step 2

    Cut out unnecessary tasks before making a schedule. try to watch an hour less of TV, or cut down time spent on the internet. A lot of time is wasted on both. TV and the Internet are good for entertainment purposes, but don't spend all your time on the computer or in front of the television.

  3. Step 3

    The most important step is write down your schedule in a planner. write down all the various school assignments you need to finish and make sure to give yourself a realistic time frame. Devote as much time as you can to studying. Academics in college are very different from academics in high school. It can be hard to manage time, and students often become overwhelmed with the amount of assignments that they have if thy don't organize their time.

  4. Step 4

    After adding all of your school assignments to your planner, add time for extracurricular activities and work. Individuals should strive to be well-rounded! Make time to find a part time job or join a school organization. Planning is crucial when trying to juggle a variety of events. Organizing time is a good skill to develop before entering the workforce.

  5. Step 5

    Leave yourself some free time! Don't over schedule! Social interaction, and relaxation are necessary!
