Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Patience, Practice, and Money.
Step1
PLAY TIGHT
The golden rule of basic poker. Only play good hands. Its very simple and can get very boring throwing away hand after hand but you will do better in the long run. Only playing pairs of 8's or better and A,K suited or A,Q suited is a good strategy for beginners. These hands give you a good shot at victory.
Step2
BE AGRESSIVE
When you have those good cards you should bet on them. In the world of online poker especially at lower money tables people will play and bet on almost anything and you can use that to your advantage. When you have the high pocket pair or suited A,K put some money down. With strong hands, more often than not you will win the hand so you want to increase the pot. If you have the best possible hand than BET, BET, BET. You may get burned playing a good hand and lose to a guy who bet on a 5,7 and outdrew you but don't get discouraged and start playing loose like him. Stick to your strategy and put the bad beats behind you.
Step3
WATCH OTHERS
Pay attention to the other players at the table even when you are not playing that hand. Get an idea of their betting habits and strategies. Is there a player who never plays a hand and suddenly raises on the flop? Is there a player who bets like crazy till the end only to have nothing? Watch for these types of behaviors and take note of them. It may come in handy when you are in a hand with them. If the crazy better raises you and you have a decent hand, you will know from previous experience that he is most likely playing with garbage. If you have a pair of kings with an ace on the board and the guy who never bets throws in some chips you might want to let that hand go. Always be aware of the others players and you will improve your chances.
