Steamed crabs are a summer time favorite around our house. Here's how to steam 'em up.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • water
  • vinegar
  • Old Bay Seasoning
  • dozen fresh crabs
  1. Step 1

    In a large boiling pot with a raised rack add water and vinegar in equal amounts until the level is just below the rack.

  2. Step 2

    Layer in crabs, sprinkling each layer with Old Bay Seasoning. (about one half cup for entire pot)

  3. Step 3

    Cover the pot and steam until the outside of the crabs are red.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add a dash of ground cayenne pepper for a little extra kick if desired.

on 11/11/2008 Old Bay was just what my mom use to use. I don't have the heart to cook a crab though. Crustation guilt. :l

on 11/9/2008 I'm from Baltimore and can not do without my steamed crabs! Just a tip, try adding a can or two of beer to the steaming liquid, it does wonder!
