How to Play a Multiplayer Game of Grand Theft Auto IV
New to Grand Theft Auto IV is a multiplayer mode! Up to 16 people can slug it out in different multiplayer scenarios, have a good old-fashioned deathmatch or just cause havoc around Liberty City. Here's how it works.

Start Grand Theft Auto IV.

Access Niko's cell phone and look for the Multiplayer option. This will allow you to customize your Multiplayer persona, but this is optional.

Select the game type you'd like to play. If you're unsure of what specific games are, consult your instruction manual. If you'd just like to tear up Liberty City with friends, select the "Free Mode" option at the bottom.

Invite players to the game or join a public game.

Go forth and wreak havoc on the streets! Different game types have different objectives. Check these before you go, otherwise you may find yourself lost and looking a little sheepish.

Tips & Warnings
There are health packs (small boxes surrounded by a green light) around the map instead of hot dog vendors. Grab these if you're hurting.
There is no money in multiplayer mode, so there's no need to beat up civilians unless you're feeling brutish.
Weapons and armor are on the minimap, indicated by blue arrows for armor and various black icons for weapons, indicating which type of weapon it is (pistol, SMG, assault rifle, sniper rifle or RPG launcher.)
Play with friends first to get a feel for Multiplayer mode before you try out ranked matches. Many people find they enjoy the ranked matches more if they go in there knowing what they're doing.
Turn friendly fire off if you and your friends are bad shots.
