How to handle food cravings associated with PMS

Usually when 'that time of the month' rolls around you can feel it coming by how your life's purpose seems to be transformed into eating as much food as possible. Don't worry, follow a few easy steps and you can manipulate those cravings to work FOR you, not against you.

Things You’ll Need:

  • A little bit of will power

Step1
Firstly, don't deny yourself. You'll notice over the span of your life that these cravings come and go every month, and more than likely you've indulged on more than one occasion, and it hasn't killed you. In fact, it probably didn't even show on the scale as soon as your period was over and the water weight was gone. If you are really really wanting something, say, that entire bag of Hershey's Kisses...refusing yourself a little indulgence is going to do more harm than good.
Step2
Portion sizes. So you want the ENTIRE bag of Kisses...in the past, you may well have had the entire bag of kisses. Settle for one or two servings. More than you would normally allow yourself, but enough to quench that craving. Its ok to spoil yourself a little bit here, girls! Sometimes we crave what our body needs...eat a little fat, give yourself some time to enjoy it, just don't overdo it. Keep an eye on your serving size and be reasonable.
Step3
Exercise. I know, its not exactly what you want to here, but just because you are cramping and bloating and only want to sit on the couch and eat, doesn't mean that you shouldn't do something constructive for yourself. Doing simple things to take care of yourself like eating healthy and working out will make it easier for you to make lifestyle choices when it comes to food cravings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep a food journal if you feel like you get out of control. Sometimes seeing what you are eating makes it easier to exercise self control.
