If you are looking to adapt a baking recipe to suit a vegan, or if you simply are out of eggs and have flax seed on hand, this is how you can successfully replace eggs in some of your baking.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • coffee grinder or blender
  • flax seed
  1. Step 1

Flax seed has a distinctive nutty taste, so it is a delicious subsitute in things like muffins, oatmeal cookies, and pancakes. You may want to investigate other vegan substitutes (like tofu) for other baking items that aren't complemented by the nutty flax seed.

  2. Step 2

To replace one egg, measure one tablespoon of flax seed and grind in a blender or coffee grinder.

  3. Step 3

Add ground flax seed to a small bowl with 3 tablespoons of water, and whisk. Voila! This will replace one egg in a recipe.

Tips & Warnings
  • Flax seed has heart-heathy omega 3 fatty acids that are only digested when ground, so this is also a good way to increase the health benefits in your baking.
