It is challenging to be a child in today's world, spending week's with mom and weekend's with dad. Follow a few simple guidelines to make the situation healthier and happier for you children.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Patience
  1. Step 1

Firstly, dealing with an ex is usually not always smooth sailing. Remember that in the end, your getting along or working together is for your children. It is about your kids, not about you. Try to put grudges aside and be constructive with one another. Never argue in front of your kids or speak ill of one another to them.

  2. Step 2

Don't degrade your ex's new partner, as you expect the same from your ex. Remember, your new spouse is to your ex what your ex's new spouse is to you. Treat them with respect.

  3. Step 3

Plan group birthday parties where you are all there, celebrating together. It is good to be in a fun situation (ie bowling, roller skating) where you might actually find yourself having fun with your ex and your child's step parent. It is also good for your child to see you all together and getting along. Again, remember this is for your child and about your child, not about you. If birthday parties work well, in the future plan a holiday gathering, a Christmas dinner or movie night. Good luck!
