No matter what stage appearance, whether your giving a formal, informal, dance or comedic presentation, no one likes being heckled or booed on stage. It can discourage you from ever attempting it again, if you don't know how to deal with it.
Understand very clearly that there is a possibility that you will be heckled, and prepare against that. Know your material inside and out. Do you routine in front of the mirror and other people prior to the performance and get brutally honest feedback.
Step2
Get confidence and get it now.
After step one, you may still need to work on your material; however, on the day of your engagement, you have to know for a fact that you are the greatest to ever do what you are about to do. Not only will this intimidate hecklers from commenting before the end of your performance, but it will also prep you for step three.
Step3
Eat him/her for lunch.
After preparing for the worst, and feeling unstoppable, your next natural belief will be that you are better than the heckler. Hecklers are judgmental, but foolish; foolish because they don't have a mic and you do.
Devise several retorts that you can use (keep them general). If you get heckled, use it quickly and without mercy. Not only will you embarrass that person, but the people around him/her laughing or affirming what you said will serve as a reminder to him/her and any other heckler in there as well.
Step4
Knock 'em dead. The surest way to eliminate a hecklers from interrupting is to have a fantastic performance. If you still think that you aren't ready it may be in your best interest to practice more before you get on stage.
Tips & Warnings
Take and keep control of the attention at all times.
Don't lose focus of the presentation, just stay confident and proceed
Don't play nice with a heckler, especially if you doing comedy
