How to Protect Your Baby in the Sun

Babies should always be protected from the sun. It is not always an easy task to protect babies in the sun. It is good to know that what you need to do to protect your baby to ensure that they are safe in the sun.

Things You'll Need:

  • Sunscreen, Hats, Long Sleeve, Umbrella
  1. Step 1

    Put on Sunscreen. Choose a Sunscreen with a SPF 15 or higher and apply it 30 minutes before going outside. It is preferred that you use a lotion based sunscreen, it will help keep skin moistened. Make sure to apply it on your baby's hands, ears, nose, lips, and the area around the eyes and make sure it is rubbed in well. To ensure that your baby is not allergic to the sunscreen you are using, apply a small amount on their arm the day before you plan going outside with the baby. If your baby has an allergic reaction seeks advice from your dermatologist on the proper type to of sunscreen to use.

  2. Step 2

    Use a lip balm on their lips that has a 15 SPF or higher. This will help keep their lips protected.

  3. Step 3

    Try to avoid the sun between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p. m. If you go out side during this time, try to seek the shade and make sure that you child is probably protected.

  4. Step 4

    Babies under the age of 6 months should not wear sunscreen; protect them with pants and with hats be careful to ensure that the clothes are "breathable". You do not want your baby to overheat.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have a hard time applying the lotion try to put it on your hands first and apply it on the baby your self.
