How to start computer in safe mode or advanced mode options

The safe mode is used in case you wanted to check whether some non microsoft software is creating a problem or is with the microsoft services or software as in the safe mode the Non microsoft software services and the start up items are disabled

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with Windows XP Home/Professional/Media Centre edition

Step1
Restart the computer.
Step2
While the computer is starting start tapping F8 key on the keyboard.
Step3
You will get a screen with Windows Advanced boot options.
Step4
Use your up and down arrow key as your mouse wont be working and then select safe mode.
Step5
In case you also want the internet connection to be working use safe mode with networking.
Step6
Sometimes you wont get the advanced boot menu when you tap F8 key in this situation log on the desktop and follow this steps

Step 1 : Start the computer in normal mode.
Step 2 : Click on start and then Run.
Step 3 : Type "msconfig" (Without quotes) and hit enter.
Step 4 : Click on the boot.ini tab.
Step 5 : In the tab you will get a check box for the safeboot and you need to check the box and select minimal.
Step 6 : In case you even need the networking feature the the rather selecting minimal select network.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before making any changes to your system do create a system restore point.
  • While using the second step the computer will be always booting in safe mode to remove this perform the same operation in safe mode and uncheck the options that we have made modification in the boot.ini tab or else in the General tab in the "msconfig" select the normal start up option.
