AIDS, or HIV, is a serious, life threatening condition that requires medical attention. The first task a patient has is to seek out medical help for it. Yet, many of the symptoms of AIDS are difficult to treat with regular medication. There are several ways to ease these symptoms. To ease the symptoms of AIDS, be sure to follow all requirements of your doctor, but consider these alternative treatment options as well.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Treat AIDS symptoms as they happen. Many of the symptoms can be treated with over the counter medications. Treat symptoms like fevers, chills, rashes, joint pain and swelling with these over the counter medications, including those pain medications your doctor tells you are okay to use.
Step2
Improve your diet. If you suffer from excessive diarrhea, which is a common symptom of AIDS, eat a gluten-free diet. This can decrease weight loss, too, which is another common problem for HIV patients.
Step3
Exercise to reduce the symptoms. HIV suffers can benefit from resistance training two to three times per week to improve lean body mass. Doctors also believe that exercise of any type can reduce the progression of the disease. Follow your doctor's recommendations.
Step4
Take a multivitamin. Evidence points to improvement in AIDS symptoms by people that take a good multivitamin and mineral supplement. In particular, the antioxidant selenium has been effective at preventing infections, increasing the appetite of the HIV sufferer and helping to keep heart function at high levels. Another is amino acid N-acetyl crysteine or NAC which improves immune functions.
Step5
Consider an herbal supplement. Arginine is excellent for improving lean body mass, as are glutamine and hydroxymethylbutyrate. Additionally, DHEA is good for fatigue and depression. Others include Zinc, Sangre De Drago, Licorice and Boxwood. Herbs are a complimentary medication and should not replace your medications prescribed by your doctor.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never stop taking medications your doctor prescribes and always consult your doctor before using alternative treatments to ease your symptoms.
