How to win a duel on runescape

Dueling in Runescape can often be an exercise in frustration. Since the game itself is not very complicated, duels are often not very interesting. But that can be okay since some of the interesting things are people beating you unfairly.

Instructions

1. Have a character ready for dueling. Note that this is not the same as having a character and deciding you want to duel. If you take a random character into a duel against a dueler of the same level, the chances are high that you will lose. Sad though it may sound, unless you're dueling for fun and not high stakes, you'll probably want to make a new character designed for dueling. This generally means no points in prayer, unless you plan to have prayer duels.

2. Set the rules for your duels. Whoever offers the duel may set the terms of the duel, and this covers everything from whether or not Prayer and Magic can be used, to whether food may be consumed and whether two-handed weapons may be wielded. If you have put no points in prayer, you'll only want to offer duels with no prayer allowed. Conversely, if you have dumped lots of points in prayer, don't accept duels that don't allow prayer.

3. Pick an archetype. There are various types of duelers, but generally speaking, you do better off specializing than you do in having a balanced character. The "glass sword" character has high attack and strength, but no defense, and plans to strike and kill quickly before any retaliation can take place. Almost all other characters will want lots of points in defense. Defensive duelers pump defense incredibly high, making them well-nigh invincible against most melee characters. Mages have no points in strength or attack, because they only attack with spells.

4. Have the right equipment. Special sets like Torags, Guthans, or Veracs can be quite powerful, as well as other items like Krark's gauntlets. Failing that, Dragon equipment is a fine choice for members, and Rune armor the standard choice for non-members.

5. Don't fall for last-minute switching scams. Other players may try to lure you into a high-stakes duel and then switch the rules, their equipment, or even their characters at the last minute. Be sure to double-check everything before entering into a duel on which you are betting.

6. Once you've done all that, just attack swiftly, use special attacks if you have them and try not to die.

Tips & Warnings

• Don't bet a lot of money or powerful items unless you can afford to lose them.

• Be aware that if the shield slot is disabled, you won't be able to use any two-handed weapons, including bows.
