You don't want unsightly blood stains to spread from a soiled piece of clothing to the rest of your laundry load, so washing the blood away before placing it in a washing machine will help. A few minutes of care spent on the stain will ensure it doesn't ruin the rest of your clothes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Spot treatment
  • Cold water
  1. Step 1

Apply a spot treatment cleaner to the blood stain. A few sprays should be enough to soak a small stain.

  2. Step 2

Let the spot treatment sit while you fill a sink or laundry tub with cold water.

  3. Step 3

Immerse the blood-stained item into the water.

  4. Step 4

Let the item sit for several minutes.

  5. Step 5

Rinse the stain as much as possible; it should be much less noticeable.

  6. Step 6

Place the item into a washing machine with a normal laundry load.

  7. Step 7

Wash your laundry load as usual. If it's a load of white clothes and you use bleach, that's fine to use on the stained item.

Tips & Warnings
  • You should wash or spot treat blood stains as soon as you notice them, even if you don't place them in the washing machine right away. This will help keep the stain from spreading to other clothes in your hamper.
  • Cold water is best for washing out blood stains.
