How to Play Metro

For all the incredibly complex visuals that a game of Metro creates, it's actually quite easy to play! Just grab 1 to 5 friends, read these few simple rules and you'll be ready to go!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Metro board game
  • 1 to 5 opponents
Step1
Lay out everyone's starting trains on the board, alternated as explained on the cards. Shuffle the metro cards, and place them in a few piles face-down around the board. Each player draws one tile and the game begins.
Step2
On your turn, you must place your tile on the board using the following rules: Tiles must be played with the arrows pointing the correct direction. You must play your tile touching either the outer edge of the board, or another tile. And you may not play a tile on the edge which causes a train to return in a single tile to the same station from which it left. Once your tile has been played, draw a replacement tile.
Step3
If you do not wish to play your tile, you may set it aside in front of you, and draw one tile from the top of a face-down stack. This newly-drawn tile must be played immediately. Your unplayed tile remains the same and will be your tile next turn.
Step4
Whenever a complete path is created from train to receiving station (either stations on the edge or in the middle of the board), the train moves along the track, scoring one point for each tile it travels through until it reaches its destination. Note that a track that loops may result in some tiles being scored twice, if the train goes through them twice. If the destination station is in the center of the board, double the tile points for that train.
Step5
Once all trains have been scored, whoever has the most points wins!

Tips & Warnings

  • Metro is a fairly fast game, and perfect to play if you're looking to kill a half-hour before the rest of your group for serious gaming shows up.
