Most people have accidentally spilled wine on their favorite shirt, dress or other piece of clothing. The most dreaded of these wine stains is the infamous red wine stain; the one that almost never comes out and can stain other clothing in the washer. But there are some tricks to prevent wine stains from spreading in laundry. Here is how to prevent those red wine stains from spreading and to possibly remove them from the clothing that they have saturated.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Laundry detergent
  • Spot-treating solution
  1. Step 1

Fill the washer with warm water. Most washers will have a soak setting and water temperature setting. Set the washer to fill to halfway on soak.

  2. Step 2

Spot-treat the wine stains on the clothing. Make sure that you follow the directions on the spot treatment solution for best results.

  3. Step 3

Place the treated clothing in the washer and fully submerge it under the water. Allow it to soak for 1 to 2 hours.

  4. Step 4

Drain the washer and refill it with water and then drain it again. This will remove any wine residue from the washer. Now you can wash all of your clothing together without worry about the wine stain spreading to other clothing in your laundry.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that the spot-treating solution you use is bleach-free so you do not damage your clothing.
