Rock climbing is rapidly becoming a very popular sport as more people are getting outdoors and enjoying the natural formations of Mother Nature. Rock climbing is great exercise and virtually works every muscle in the body, as well as build both strength and endurance. Many people who are new to this sport are not in the know of how to properly dress. These steps will guide you down the right path of dressing appropriately for rock climbing.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Loose-fitting clothing
  • Rock climbing shoes
  • Chalk bag
  • Chalk
  • Harness
  • Carabiner
  • Rock climbing helmet
  1. Step 1

Determine your dress sizes and needs. You will need to know what your shoe size and waist sizes are in order to buy the right rock climbing gear. They use the same sizes for shoes, and generally you want a harness that is about two sizes larger than your waist size.

  2. Step 2

Purchase the supplies. You can find supplies at any rock climbing store (see Resources) that will have all of the gear you need. Make sure that you get everything required for rock climbing.

  3. Step 3

Learn how to use the supplies. If you do not know how to put on a harness, make sure that you get instructions from somebody that does know. The chalk bag simply straps around your waist and you fill it with powdered chalk. This way you can keep your hands from getting too sweaty, which will cause a reduced grip. The rock climbing shoes fit like any pair of shoes and should be really snug. They have extra grip on them that allows you to use your toes to stick to rock walls and sheer ledges.

  4. Step 4

Now that you have the proper gear for rock climbing, head out that the climbing spot and have a great time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always bring a friend with when you go rock climbing to belay you.
  • Never climb alone or without the proper gear, this can only lead to disaster.
