Chatzilla, Mozilla's cross-platform Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client, is very intuitive to use. It works with a variety of other web standards and has many of the same features as similar instant messaging programs. One of the coolest features is Chatzilla's ability to turn simple typed emoticons into full-fledged images. Follow these simple instructions to use Chatzilla emoticons.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Chatzilla
  • Mozilla, Firefox or SeaMonkey
  1. Step 1

Install and set up Chatzilla, if you haven't already done so (see Resources below). Though the program is included as part of the SeaMonkey suite, it's also compatible with and available for download for Mozilla and Firefox.

  2. Step 2

Choose to use either ":" or "=" to represent eyes when typing emoticons. Chatzilla supports both and translates the same way.

  3. Step 3

Express happiness. To show you are happy, extremely happy or falling down laughing happy, choose from the following emoticons::-) happy :-D extremely happy X-D laughing

  4. Step 4

Show your displeasure on Chatzilla. Choose from one of these faces::-P tongue out>:-( angry:-O surprised

  5. Step 5

Let someone know you're feeling blue with these emoticons::~( crying:-( sad:-| flat, undecided

  6. Step 6

Show people your coy side on Chatzilla. Try these faces:;-) winkingo_O dizzyO_O wide-eyed:") blushing

  7. Step 7

Question what somebody else has to say and let them know you're onto them with these faces.B-) cool:-? questioning9_9 rolling eyes>:-D evil

Tips & Warnings
  • People are constantly creating new emoticons and adding them to the lexicon. If someone uses one you like and you want to know what key combinations made it, just hover your mouse over the face and it will be revealed.
  • You use "-" or "^" or "v" to represent noses, but most of the icons will display if you don't use one.
  • Be responsible when using emoticons. It can be extremely annoying to have to wade through face after face after face to grasp the meaning of a message. Think of using them the same way you would use ALL CAPS or exclamation points--as enhancement, not as a habit.
