Things You'll Need:
- Food lockers
-
Step 1
As always, check with authorities. Most national parks will give you information about keeping safe from bears and park rangers can be a wealth of information.
-
Step 2
Store all food and food containers in "Bear Boxes" or "Bear Lockers" provided at the campsite. Don't leave any food or food containers (including coolers!) in your car because bears have learned over the years to look in cars. If they recognize anything as potential food, they will find a way (with force) into your car.
-
Step 3
Keep anything that may smell good to bears locked away as well. This includes toothpaste, lotion, deodorant and so on. These items should not be kept in your tent, but locked away out of sight and out of smell from the bears.
-
Step 4
Wash all your dishes and dispose of the dishwater in the proper dumping stations at your campsite. Again, lock away all the dishes where they will be out of sight.
