1. Put together a list of people that you want to invite to the Mother's Day party. Remember that Mother's Day may not necessarily be just about a mother and her children. However, you shouldn't have a huge guest list either.

2. Plan the party on a day other than Mother's Day. Chances are that people will be somewhat busy on Mother's Day. Therefore, consider planning your surprise Mother's Day party for the Saturday before the holiday. This will also help to make the event a true surprise.

3. Buy plenty of Mother's Day merchandise that you can use for the Mother's Day party. You can find these supplies at any card or party store.

4. Cook the mother's favorite foods and serve them during the party. You could also have guests each bring one food item that the guest of honor will enjoy. A mother spends plenty of time cooking throughout her lifetime. This party is a way for everybody to wait on her.

5. Find pictures and other items that will remind the mother of how great a parent she has been. For example, you could find old coloring books, photo albums or home movies. Place these items on a table at the party for all the guests to see.

6. On the day of the party, take the mother out for a meal or a small shopping spree. Convince her that this event is her Mother's Day gift. When she arrives to the party, she will be truly surprised.
