Bunco is a dice game that has been around for many years, but has recently experienced a resurgence in popularity. Just roll the dice and try to roll the same number as the current round. All three dice of the correct number is a Bunco and scores additional points.

Things You'll Need:

  • Many 6-sided dice
  • 3-6 players
  1. Step 1

Realize what "Bunco" means. It means swindle, or confidence game. The most important thing when playing Bunco is not to let someone else change the rules on you mid-game. If you are playing for any money, be sure that all rules have been agreed on beforehand.

  2. Step 2

Accept that Bunco is not a game of skill. As it is played today, Bunco consists solely of rolling dice, and scoring points whenever a particular number comes up. There is no betting after every roll, no higher probability of any given number than any other and absolutely zero decisions for a player to make. You must understand this fact when attempting to formulate a Bunco strategy. This leaves only three methods which allow you to increase your chances of winning.

  3. Step 3

Play with unfair dice. Each round scores you only for a particular number, so you will need different rigged dice for each round. You can either use a standard loaded die which is more likely to come up a certain number, or a trick die which has the same number on multiple sides. Either way, if you are using an unfair die, be sure to hide it and replace it with a fair die immediately after the round. Use of such dice is cheating and you will be dealt with harshly if you are caught.

  4. Step 4

If you are playing with fair dice, the only way to have a better chance of rolling your number is to roll more frequently. This means that rolls should be as quick as possible, with minimal shaking before releasing the dice. Be sure not to put much power behind your dice throw, because the further the dice go, the more you have to reach to reclaim them. Your ideal throw drops the dice on the table in front of you, lets your team quickly score any points you may have gained, and then you immediately grab the dice and throw them again. Repeat this as many times as possible.

  5. Step 5

If all else fails, make up for your in-game losses by claiming victory at the snack table. If you lose $5 on the dice, but get to eat and drink $10 worth of refreshments supplied by your host, then you come out $5 ahead on the evening. You can't control how the dice will roll, but you can control the egg roll or lobster roll.

Tips & Warnings
  • Throwing dice swiftly is a lot like playing jacks. Practicing at home will increase your speed.
  • Cheating is only recommended in high-stakes games. If you are playing for a few bucks, it's not worth risking a friendship over.
