There is usually a lot of voice usage in Anusara yoga. How can you use your voice to allow your inner light to shine?

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yoga mat
  1. Step 1

Know that Anusara is about letting your inner voice shine through the poses--both figuratively and literally. Usually at the beginning of class, three "OMs" are chanted.

  2. Step 2

Be aware that the "OM" is made up of three sounds. The "Ah" sound drops the jaw and loosens lips and tongue. The "Oh" sound is made with curved, circular lips, and the the "Mm" sound is made with a closed mouth, as if you're humming. This "OM" is chanted three times at the beginning of an Anusara class and at the end.

  3. Step 3

Know that not only is "OM chanted," but typically an Anusara instructor will also chant at the end of class.

  4. Step 4

Try sounding out these words of a common yoga chant: Om Namah Shivaya GuraveSatchidananda MurtayeNishprapanchaya ShantayaNiralambaya TejaseOm shantih, shantih, shantihThe "Om shantih, shantih, shantih," the last line of the chant, says to send peace and blessings to the world around you.

  5. Step 5

Practice this chant, allowing your voice to soar. Try this in the privacy of your own home and find a comfort with your voice.
