Many of us have had that miserable experience where we finish using the restroom and when we go to flush that toilet we notice that it is indeed not flushing at all. Rather, the water is precariously rising inside of the bowl and if we do not react quickly we face the risk of the toilet bowl overflowing all over the bathroom floor.

From Quick Guide: Unclog a Toilet
Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Toilet
  • Plunger
  • Rapid response skills
  1. Step 1

Turn the water press off immediately. Once you notice that the toilet is not flushing and that the water inside of the bowl is rising, turn of that water pressure. The water pressure valve for the toilet is usually found at the bottom on either the left or the right side. It looks like an oval-shaped silver piece. Simply turn the valve all the way to the right to turn off the water pressure.

  2. Step 2

Plunge the toilet. Using your plunger, insert it into the water carefully and plunge the toilet. This may take a little while to unclog but eventually you will hear a gurgling noise when the clog comes undone and the water level will gradually decrease back to normal inside of the toilet bowl.

  3. Step 3

Turn water pressure valve back on. Now reach back underneath the toilet and turn the water pressure valve all the way to the left to turn back on the water in the toilet.

  4. Step 4

Flush the toilet to make sure it is free of the clog. If the water begins to build up again, repeat steps one through three.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you still can not get your toilet to flush properly it is time to call a plumber out.
