Neckties add sophistication and polish to a man's suit, but many men don't know the correct way to tie a necktie. You don't have to use a clip-on. It is easy to properly tie a necktie by following step-by-step instructions. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

      Place the tie around your neck with both ends hanging down the front of your chest. The wide side of the tie should be on your left side.

      Cross the wide end over the narrow end to form an "X" near your neck.

      Pinch the "X" with your fingers and thumb pointing up toward your chin.

      Wrap the wide side completely around your fingers. Bring the end up behind your fingers through the "V" formed by the tie.

      Push the end of the tie through the space where your fingers are.

      Tighten the knot until it rests comfortably against your neck. The wide end should be longer than the narrow end.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a problem with the narrow end hanging below the wide end, begin your knot with the wide end hanging slightly lower.

  • Tying a necktie is a skill that takes practice. Don't get frustrated.
