How to Use Google

Google is the world's most widely used search engine and is also one of the easiest to learn. Whether you're doing research, looking for a phone number listing or just want to map a destination, Google is designed with several features that can make web browsing efficient and effective. Since it's not covered with advertising or content, you can find just the information you need after a simple keyword search. Here's how to get started using Google.

  1. Step 1

    Set up your Google Account. This helps you gain access to all areas of Google such as email, the calendar, notebook and other features in one step.

  2. Step 2

    Begin with a basic search. Visit the Google homepage to access the search feature.

  3. Step 3

    Conduct a search. Enter keywords into the Google Search box and select "Google Search" for a complete search, or "I'm Feeling Lucky" to go directly to any result.

  4. Step 4

    Use the Advanced Search feature. The Google Advanced Search options help you refine your search and filter out several options. You can search for exact words, remove unwanted words or search for a string of specific words with this function.

    Download the Google toolbar. This can give you easy access to the search box so you don't have to type in the website URL every time you want to use Google.

Tips & Warnings
  • You don't need a Google Account to use the basic Google search function.
