Step 1
Looks. Jason Castro may be more known for his looks then his voice on American Idol. The whole season, he sported long dreadlocks and while looking repulsive at first, they seemed to have caught on with audiences who got used to them.
-
Step 2
Along with the dreads, Jason Castro is usually wearing “hippie-like” clothing and has been seen in a flowery button-up shirt and several other tight fitting button up shirts.
-
Step 3
Instruments. Jason Castro has performed almost every performance with a guitar, usually an acoustic guitar, but one time a ukulele for his performance of “Over the Rainbow.” You should learn how to play the guitar and play especially slow-moving songs that really show emotion coming from the music.
-
Step 4
Song choice. Jason Castro’s song choice has varied, but he usually likes to sing a slow ballad that requires a soft voice to get through it. Some of his most memorable performances used his soft voice in a slow tune, like "Hallelujah" and "Memories." He sounds great on faster songs, such as "Travelin' Through."
-
Step 5
He has also performed a couple of songs with a foreign language, so if you want to mix up your act a little, then learn a couple of different foreign language songs.
-
Step 6
Stage Presence. When you are onstage, duplicating Jason Castro requires a real laid-back presence. He usually performs on a stool or a chair and softly sings to the crowd. He occasionally has a goofy look on his face and also does a couple of weird mannerisms so you should definitely study his tapes to see how he performs.
-
Step 7
He also closes his eyes during several parts during his singing. You do not have to close your eyes, because that could be unnatural for your performance and look awkward. After his performances, he is all smiles and maybe even a little shy with fans.
