  2. Step 2

Download the Google Notebook extension. This will download into your browser so you can have it available as you surf the web. The download takes a few seconds on a high-speed Internet connection, and you will need to restart your browser in order for it to work.

  3. Step 3

Launch the browser. After the download is complete, launch a new browser to reveal the Google Notebook extension.

  4. Step 4

Open Google Notebook. Select the Google Notebook and log in with your Google account.

  5. Step 5

Create a note. Click "New Note" to create a label for your notebook--the topic or subject you are researching.

Create a clip. Capture a portion of text or an image by selecting it with your mouse and clicking "Clip" on the Google Notebook toolbar. This inserts your selection into your notebook.

  7. Step 7

Use the share feature. If you are working on a group project, save the notebook and click on "Share options" to turn on collaboration features.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can create multiple notebooks and save them in the Google Notebook interface for easy access.
  • Label each notebook with just two to three words to make it easier to find data.
  • You can drag and drop notes around your notebook to organize them better.
  • Add comments to notes for more details on each topic.
  • Don't forget that all URLs to notes are stored with each clip; this makes it easier to reference sources.
  • Make sure you keep private research notes private. Double-check your share functions when saving to ensure you aren't giving collaborators access to your project.
