It is said to practice yoga on an empty stomach, meaning no food for up to 3 hours before you start. How is this possible?

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Try to fast 3 hours before yoga. Practicing yoga on an empty stomach helps you breathe deeper, fullers breaths. If this seems utterly impossible, there are a few things that can be done.

  2. Step 2

Drink a lot of fluids. Water is best but if you need to drink a fitness/vitamin drink, that is fine. Gatorade is a good option for those with low blood sugar.

  3. Step 3

Consider a small snack if your stomach is growling and you often get dizzy in yoga class. About 30 to 45 minutes before class, eat 1/2 a tablespoon of peanut butter or 5 almonds. Another option is to each an apple with a piece of cheese. A small snack will coat your stomach and allow you to avoid feeling dizzy during class.

  4. Step 4

Do not eat right before class. This will make you feel uncomfortable, since the breathing exercises have you pull the energy from your belly up.
