Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Position the tie over your shoulders. The short end should be on your left shoulder. The long end should be on your right. Take the long end and position it over the short end. Make sure the short end is about at the point where the tie begins to thicken. Wrap the long end around the short end. The long end should now be on your left side. There will also be a crevice in the knot of the tie. This should take exactly two seconds.

  2. Step 2

Next, you will notice the part of the tie around your neck will be in a "v" shape. Take the long end of tie and go under and through the "v." This process should take exactly one second. Remember to go under and through, not over and through, if you go over and through you will have to start all over again.

  3. Step 3

Now, your long end should be through the "v." Take the long end and go through the crevice in the knot. Doing this finalizes the knot. Once your long end is inside the crevice, pull the long end down. Your knot is complete. Now, hold onto the short end of the tie, and, while holding onto the short end, pull the knot up to your neck. Your tie is officially complete. This process should take you three seconds.

  4. Step 4

Fiddle with the tie, if necessary, to make it look most presentable. In many cases, this step will not even be necessary. However, if it is, it should not take more than two seconds to straighten the tie or whatever else is necessary to make the tie look as nice as it can.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice! This takes time. If this is your first time attempting to tie a tie, chances are you will not be able to make the time limit.
  • Take your time! Even though ten seconds does not seem like a very long time, once you become used to tying your tie you will be able to tie a tie in the allotted time with no problem. If you are rushing there is a greater chance you will make a mistake and need to start again.
