The Internet has made it possible for people from around the world to easily connect. A popular avenue for doing so is through the website Youtube, where users can upload videos to share with one another. If you want to share your thoughts through a video blog or simply show you and your friends doing something stupid, here's how to upload a video to Youtube.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Video file on computer
  1. Step 1

Before you being uploading a video on Youtube you need to first create an account. This can be done by clicking on the "create an account" button located on the top right of the screen. If you already have an account with Youtube you can proceed on to the next step.

  2. Step 2

Once an account has been established you want to click on the "Upload" button. This too should be located in the upper right corner of your computer screen.

  3. Step 3

The first of two steps will appear on your screen after you have clicked the "Upload" button. First, you are required to provide information about your video before you actually upload it. This includes giving the video a title and description as well as choosing category and tag words for it to help other users find it.

  4. Step 4

After you have entered the required information about your video in the previous step, you can choose to enter additional information as well such as where and when the video was taken. You also have the option to make the video public or only share it with a few friends that you designate through your contact list. Finally you can choose what type of comments, ratings, postings and more are allowed with your video.

  5. Step 5

Once all the information about the video has been entered, you can proceed to the second step which is actually uploading your video. Youtube allows you to browse through your computer files just as you would when you have an attachment with an email, and this makes it very easy to upload. After you've selected the video you want to upload, simply click the upload button.

  6. Step 6

Waiting for the video to process and be fully uploaded is the often the longest part. This can take a long time if your video is a large file. However, keep checking back, and eventually it will be finished processing. This means it is available for you to share with your family, friends and the entire world.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can change the information and settings for your video after it has been uploaded by choosing to edit the specific video under the "My Videos" option.
  • Uploading can take a long time so don't become concerned if it is not available right away.

on 11/10/2009 Can you edit a video already on YouTube so that links to the video aren't broken on other websites?

Thanks!
