Step 1
Patronize a salon where both the business and the nail technicians are licensed. Ask questions, and ensure sure that all of their equipment is properly sterilized. Sterilizing with heat is ideal, but chemical sterilization is practiced in many states.
-
Step 2
Check chemical solutions for the words "germicidal" and "fungicidal." Equipment should be immersed in these solutions for a minimum of ten minutes, especially between customers.
-
Step 3
Both you and the technician should wash your hands before your nail treatment. The nail technician should also use a new nail file, or you could even provide your own.
-
Step 4
In between your nail treatments, ensure that your nails keep dry, well ventilated and protected from wear and tear, which includes making sure not to bite them. Also, make sure to eat a balanced diet with protein, which will help to promote healthy nails.

Step 5
If you detect symptoms of nail fungus, like pain, itching, pus or discoloration at the nail, have the acrylic nail removed immediately and seek treatment from a medical professional.
