Be prepared. If you really want to feel like you’re at home, it will cost you. You’re going to need to bring a bag of stuff with you to setup your temporary personal stall. Dedicate a backpack or some other kind of bag just for this purpose. It’s not a bag you’ll want to use for other purposes. It’s good to get a bag with several compartments.
-
2
Pack your bag. You’ll need several key items: a mirror to use for any personal grooming, a book or magazine to read, tissues, your own toilet paper, some magnetic picture frames and several plastic bags. You may also want to add some items from the next several steps, such as a music player and air freshener.

3
Choose carefully where to setup your own private stall. Don’t just use any bathroom. Some bathrooms are going to be more conducive to setup your own private stall. For example, don’t try this at a bathroom in a biker bar.
-
4
Choose which stall you use carefully. The stall in the front may be cleaned more often, but the one in the back will probably provide more privacy. Clean the bathroom with some wipes or disinfectant if necessary.
-
5
Block out public bathroom noises. Use a CD or MP3 player to block out the surrounding noise. Don’t turn it so loud that you can’t hear emergency information or other critical noises. Never do this if you have children with you.
-
6
Block out that public bathroom smell. A candle is not practical, but you can use an air freshener. You can buy something that is time released rather than a plug in or you can use an auto air freshener or spray.
-
7
Stop possible interruptions. First lock the door. Next you want to put up a printed sign that the stall is in use. This might seem a little out of the ordinary and may not always be practical. However, putting up a sign will keep others from knocking or trying to enter. Be warned that you may be mocked for this, or it may even cause others to purposefully bother you. So use the sign at your own discretion.

8
Setup your personal items that you brought with you. Then use the bag you brought to cover up the open space at the bottom of the door. This will give you a little extra privacy. However if you are concerned someone will steal your bag, then place it on the hook on the door or closer to you.
