Step 1
Usually when you set in points and out points on a clip, they are for the same time for both the audio and video tracks, if the clip is a linked clip. It is more common to create split edits after clips are assembled into your rough cut, but it is possible to set a split edit to either a sequence or a source clip before it is added to a sequence.
-
Step 2
To create a split edit, you may first need to click the triangle to the left of each track name to expand the tracks you want to adjust.
-
Step 3
Select the clip to have the split edit applied by clicking on it. Go to the "Clip" menu and click on "Unlink." Repeat for the clip either before or after depending on your project.
-
Step 4
Select the “Rolling Edit” tool from the toolbox. It is usually the fourth tool from the top on the left hand side of the toolbox.
-
Step 5
Starting at the audio edit point between the two clips and drag either left or right.
-
Step 6
To set the source In and Out points for a split edit, open the clip in the source monitor, and set the current time to the frame that you want to be the video or audio In or Out point.
-
Step 7
With the source monitor still active, go to "Marker," and then "Set Clip Marker." Select either "Video In," "Video Out," "Audio In," or "Audio Out," depending on your needs.
-
Step 8
Set the remaining video and audio In and Out points by doing the same as above. When you add the clip to a sequence, the video portion will start and end at a different time than the audio. You may need to render your project before previewing.
