How to Behave in a Perpetual Adoration Chapel

A Perpetual Adoration Chapel is somewhat different than a normal church. It's important to know what to do while in the Chapel so as not to offend other parishioners and properly revere the sanctity of the Chapel.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off all cell phones and electronic devices before entering the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Since the Blessed Sacrament is exposed, there will always be at least one person sitting in the Chapel. You'll want to shut these devices off so that you don't disturb anybody praying in the Chapel.

    • 2

Upon entering the Perpetual Adoration Chapel, bless yourself with Holy Water immediately.

    • 3

After you have blessed yourself, kneel in the direction of the Blessed Sacrament. Catholics believe that Jesus Christ is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. Therefore, it is important to kneel to show Jesus the reverence he deserves.

    • 4

Refrain from talking while in the Adoration Chapel. You can acknowledge others in the Chapel with a simple wave or a quiet “hello” but any conversation should occur outside of the Chapel.

    • 5

Use your time in the Adoration Chapel for prayer and silent reflection. This is your opportunity to spend time with Jesus. Use it wisely.

    • 6

Bring your Bible and other spiritual reading material to the Adoration Chapel. You don't necessarily have to spend your entire time in the Chapel praying. Reading a Bible is perfectly acceptable behavior while in the Adoration Chapel.

    • 7

When you are about to exit the Adoration Chapel, kneel once again in the direction of the Blessed Sacrament. Remember to bless yourself with the Holy Water once more before exiting the Chapel.
