How to Catch Crawdads
Got a creek nearby and a hat or an empty shoe? Then you can try catching crawdads. The more serious catchers may even use a string tied to a stick.

Find a creek. Spot crawdads swimming below the surface with their red or pink coloring. They look like small lobsters.

Wade in it with an empty hat or shoe. Scoop up a crawdad in the empty container and take it out on shore and look at it as it crawls around.

Return it to the creek by picking it up by its body shell. Beware of the pincers in the front.

Alternatively, tie a chunk of raw bacon to a string and tie the string to a stick. Sit on the bank with your fishing pole in the water and wait for a bite.

If a crawdad goes for the bacon, pull it in. Examine it if you like, then throw it back.

Tips & Warnings
Some people eat crawdads and some river towns even hold Crawdad Festivals. You have to boil them like lobsters, then shell them for the meat.
