Add 1/2 cup salt to the rinse water when washing your clothes.

The salt will keep the clothes from freezing on the line.

Allow your whites to freeze, however. Freezing will act like bleach on the whites and they'll be softer when they thaw out.

Tips & Warnings
Use iodized salt for this trick; it's much cheaper and "saltier" than Kosher salt.
