How to Nest Sequences in Adobe Premiere Pro

You can combine various sequences in Adobe Premiere Pro, known as “nesting,” and you will be able to use a number of techniques, as well as create effects, that would otherwise be much more time consuming. Nesting also makes it possible to reuse sequences, apply different settings to copies of sequences, simplify your editing space or create complex, multilayered sequences that can then be added to your main sequence as a single clip.

Instructions

    • 1

Drag one sequence from the Project panel or Source Monitor into an available track of the active sequence in order to nest one sequence into another. When you insert one sequence into other sequences, the nested sequence will appear as a single video/audio clip, even though the source may contain numerous tracks.

    • 2

Double click on it in the Timeline if you need to open the source of a nested sequence. The source of the sequence will automatically become the active sequence.

    • 3

Nest an unlimited number of sequences within other sequences and create complex hierarchies. Any changes you make to the source sequence will be reflected in any nested instances of it that are created.

    • 4

Open the source sequence at the exact frame you want to reveal if you want to edit a clip within a nested sequence. Do this by going to the Timeline panel, and drag the current-time indicator to the specific frame.

    • 5

Press the "Shift" key and the “T” key at the same time. This will open the source sequence in the Timeline panel, with the current-time indicator at the frame you previously specified. Double-click the clip under which the Current Time Indicator is over, and it will open in the Source Monitor.
