How to Do Neck Rotations

Neck rotations are a beneficial part of any stretching regimen. They help to stretch the splenius and sternocleidomastoid (neck) muscles, in particular, and relieve stiffness prior to exercise. Read on to learn how to do neck rotations.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Stand or sit, with your back and neck straight.

  2. Step 2

    Without bending your neck up or down, turn your head and look directly to one side. Keep your shoulders square, and your torso facing forward, throughout the rotation.

  3. Step 3

    Maintain this position for a breath. Hold it for one to five seconds.

  4. Step 4

    Return your head to the starting position, and repeat for the other side. Repeat a few times.
