How to win a game of apples to apples
Sometimes in Apples to Apples, you will have the perfect red card for the green card played. The rest of the time, victory relies on a combination of humorous responses, strategy and dumb luck. Here's a little help on how to win.

1
Know the people you are playing with. In some groups, the most incongruous answer wins, in some groups the best answer--the one most true to the green apple--wins. In some groups the caprice of the judge is the deciding factor.

2
Keep an eye out for red apples that are the opposite of the green apple played. For example, if the green apple was “trustworthy,” everyone else played a card that epitomized something trustworthy and you played “a used car lot” or “a cheap motel,” it would make your card stand out and increase your chance of being picked.

3
Be quick. In games with 4 players, the first person to put down a card gets to put down a second one. In a game of six or more, the last player doesn't get to put down a card. Either way, it is to your advantage to be quick.

Some cards are just funny in and of themselves. The card “Charging rhinos” almost always takes a green apple.
-
5
If you don't have a good answer, play a card you don't like. That way, you will get rid of it.

Political skulduggery often plays a decisive role in Apples to Apples. Although you aren't supposed to know whose card is whose, sometimes you can tell. The right bit of favoritism can earn you a return favor when the victor is the judge. The wrong one, however, can earn you the enmity of other players.

7
Don't get too competitive. It will make the game less fun for everyone. Always remember that you are playing a very silly game.
