Step 1
One of the biggest misconceptions is that a man who cares about how he looks is a metrosexual or "manwhore." Forget about this stereotype and wear what you want. People are always going to talk about you, especially if they're envious of your charisma or charm. Brush it off and be who you are.
-
Step 2
Take a girlfriend or lady friend along with you when shopping for clothes. Women often have very different taste than men and can lend a helping hand in choosing the right outfit for you. You may have never considered an outfit unless a friend suggested it. If you question your choice of clothes, never be afraid to bring along a "stylist."
-
Step 3
Tight, form-fitting Western-style button downs are quite popular with men these days. Wear these with pride, but opt for a shirt that doesn't cut off your circulation. If you wish to unbutton the top buttons, make it modest. Ladies love seeing a little skin, but unbuttoning the shirt down to your abs is a bit over the top.
-
Step 4
If you're wearing a thin, cotton button-down shirt, see how it looks before you head out the door. Many dress shirts require some form of undershirt in order to look right. Similar to women, what you wear under your clothes often makes or breaks the outfit.
-
Step 5
Go for fashionable jeans, but watch how tight you wear them. If you're in shape, of course they are more flattering. But to avoid being a manwhore, wear jeans that let you breathe a little. After all, what lady wants to compete with a guy in the tight jeans department? Believe it or not, some women (and men) question your sexuality based on the clothes you wear.
-
Step 6
Go for accessories but limit yourself. If you wear a thick gold chain, aviator sunglasses, a Rolex, and a skull cap, you will look overdone. Accessories are great, but make sure you're not overdoing it. If you look like you're trying too hard, many will be turned off by you.
-
Step 7
Carry yourself in a respectable manner. In the end, no matter what you choose to wear, people will notice if you exude confidence or have an attitude problem. People can tell the difference so be real and be yourself. Your clothes will only accentuate the person you really are.
