Makeup seems to be a rite of passage for many young women. Putting on makeup symbolizes maturity and attractiveness, whether the makeup is attractive or not. One aspect of makeup that is not commonly discussed in fashion magazines is the fact that makeup causes your skin to age more quickly. Twenty-somethings who have been wearing heavy cosmetics, and their corresponding toxins, throughout their teenage years will seek a marked change in their complexions when the makeup comes off. Wean yourself off of makeup while you still have time to preserve that youthful glow of natural, untainted skin. These steps will help you be makeup-free.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a change in your self-perception and attitude towards beauty. Tossing out makeup before you are ready to accept your clean and clear complexion may stunt your progress.

  2. Step 2

Once you are open to natural beauty, consider the perks of wearing less makeup. Monetary perks are out there as cosmetics and their accoutrements can be extraordinarily expensive. Less time to get ready is another benefit as is the invaluable bonus of clean and natural skin.

  3. Step 3

As you concentrate on your new attitude and the benefits of wearing less makeup, give your collection a thorough examination. Get rid of your cosmetics in stages and remember that you do not have to get rid of everything.

  4. Step 4

Look for particularly unnatural colors like green mascara and purple lipstick. These will be the easiest to phase out.

  5. Step 5

Try wearing only natural colors on your face. Pinks and taupes on your eyes and nude shade for your lips and cheeks will soon appear much more tasteful and healthy-looking than outrageously bright colors.

  6. Step 6

If wearing no make-up at all is your goal, wean off week by week, one item at a time. For example, give up eye shadow for a week and keep your foundation, blush, lipstick and mascara. Once you are used to your face without eye shadow, work on gradually giving up the rest.

  7. Step 7

Drink lots of water. Water is essential for healthy skin.

  8. Step 8

Wash your face thoroughly daily and exfoliate every few days to keep that naturally beautiful skin fresh and clean.
