Step 1
Gather your supplies and place them where they are easy to reach. Fill the bucket with water and shampoo and then tie your horse in a safe area.
-
Step 2
Spray your horse with the water hose to wet his entire body. Start at the hooves and work your way up with the hose. This gets the horse used to the water temperature. Most horses don't like to sprayed in the face so use a wet sponge to wipe his face.
-
Step 3
Dip the sponge in the soapy water and start at the horse's neck just behind the ears. If there are stained or very dirty areas, use the bristled brush with shampoo and water on it to wash them.
-
Step 4
Apply conditioner to the mane and tail.
-
Step 5
Use the sponge to wash your horse's face. Be careful to keep the shampoo out of his eyes.
-
Step 6
Rinse the shampoo and conditioner off of your horse with the water hose. Start behind the ears and work your way back and down until the water rinses clear. Use the clean sponge to get the shampoo off of the horse's face.
-
Step 7
Use a sweat scraper to remove excess water from your horse and help him dry faster.
