Your alarm didn't go off. You overslept. You just couldn't get yourself together to get where you're going in time. Don't worry because you can make the best of your tardiness. Read on to learn how to deal with running late.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Accept the fact that you're going to be late. There's no getting around it unless a fairy godmother shows up and zaps you where you need to be in less than 30 seconds flat. Once you admit to yourself that you are going to be late, you can stop panicking and start thinking about the best way to get yourself together.

  2. Step 2

Think about what you can do on the way that'll help get you out the door faster. Grab something easy to eat in the car, like a granola bar. Figure out how much of your outfit you can finish putting on in the car (jacket, scarf, gloves or other items). Bring makeup with you and apply it if you are stopped at a light or when you arrive at your destination instead of wasting more time doing it before you leave.

  3. Step 3

Consider which route is going to take you where you need to be the fastest. If it is rush hour, be sure to avoid roads with school buses and heavily populated highways if you need to make up time.

  4. Step 4

Deal with the consequences of your lateness (imissing your doctor's appointment and having to reschedule, working through lunch at work to make up the time or other scenarios). If there was something specific that made you late (traffic, alarm didn't go off, other such extenuating circumstances) let it be known but don't try to make excuses for why you are late or you are just going to sound like you are exaggerating. If you don't have a specific reason why you're late other than you just didn't get moving fast enough, don't try to fabricate something as odds are you will just come across sounding desperate and ridiculous.
