Step 1
Hard boil as many eggs as you wish to color. Be careful not to crack any. However, if you should you crack one, you can still dye it if you wish, but it it best not to eat it as they dye will bleed onto the egg itself.
-
Step 2
Pick up an egg dying kit from the seasonal section of any grocery store, Target, Wal-Mart or Kmart as it gets close to Easter. The well known brand is PAAS, as many of these kits include dye as well as stencils, stickers and other decorating materials with tips for how to make your eggs unique. Also pick up vinegar, as you need to mix this in with the pellet for the dye.
-
Step 3
Mix the dye pellets in cups with warm water and vinegar. Make sure the pellet is thoroughly dissolved before you begin.
-
Step 4
If you want to dye your egg all one color, submerge it fully in the cup with the color of your choice. For dark coloring, leave the eggs for three to five minutes. For lighter pastel colors, take out after a minute or two.
-
Step 5
If you wish to experiment with different color combinations, submerge the egg first into the lighter of the two colors you are mixing, then in the darker. For example, if you wish to make purple, first put the egg in the pink, then in the blue. Putting it in the blue first will make it harder for the pink to mix, as the blue will likely already be too dark.
-
Step 6
Use the wire dipper(s) that come with the kit if you want to have your egg be one color on top and another color on the bottom. This will make a clear division between the two colors.
-
Step 7
If you wish to write on the egg, do so with the crayon provided before dipping the egg in the dye. This will make the words you write appear on the egg in white.
-
Step 8
Wait until the eggs are fully dried before adding any stickers; if they are still damp, the adhesive will not stick to th eggs.
