There are many ways to throw a playing card, but some are better than others. Have you ever watched a casino dealer throw a playing card? Either a blackjack dealer throwing a card or a poker dealer, they both know how to throw a playing card precisely. They seem to effortlessly and quickly throw the cards, but you can do it too. It does not matter whether you want to learn how to throw a playing card for card games, or just for the fun of it; you can do it. Read the following to learn how you can soon be able to smoothly throw a playing card yourself, just like the professionals.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Deck of cards
  •
Time
  •
Patience
  1. Step 1

Understand that not only do you need a deck of cards, but you also need a lot of time and patience. Do not expect to be throwing playing cards like the pros in a short amount of time. You must spend the necessary time to achieve your goal. So, the first step would be to allow for the time required to throw a playing card.

  2. Step 2

Take the deck of playing cards with your right hand and place it in your left hand. The top of the deck should be held by your little finger and ring finger on one side and by your palm (just below the base of the thumb) on the other side.

  3. Step 3

Using your right hand thumb, gently press the deck of playing cards from the bottom to the top and a little to the right. This should fan the cards, which allows you to access them quicker.

  4. Step 4

Place your left hand thumb on top of the deck of playing cards and practice sliding the top card to the right (not up) with your thumb. Do this several times, until you are comfortable.

  5. Step 5

Using your right hand, place your thumb on top right corner of the card you want to throw and your index finger below the card.

  6. Step 6

Place your middle finger on the edge of the card, just below the other two fingers. The card should be resting at a slight angle across your nail.

  7. Step 7

Now pull the card a little up and to the right, and “flick” your middle finger quickly to throw the playing card. As you flick it, release your other two fingers.

  8. Step 8

Once you have flicked the top card, repeat the process beginning with Step 4. At first, it may be awkward and slow to throw the playing cards. The more you practice it, the faster and easier it will be the next time around.

Tips & Warnings
  • Directions given are for right-handed individuals. If you were left-handed, you would most likely reverse them.
  •
It is easier to use new playing cards to throw, than older worn cards.
  •
The placement of the deck of playing cards in your palm is important and the two types of dealers hold the cards slightly different. Find which one works best for you. A blackjack dealer will most often hold them as described, but a poker dealer may put the deck higher up in the hand.
