Think of a theme. Science fiction is a pretty broad topic, so you probably will have more success if you narrow it down. You could do a party dedicated to a particular subgenre such as post-apocalyptic science fiction or steampunk, or a party dedicated to a character type such as a sci-fi villains and heroes party. Dedicating your party to a particular series or movie (such as a Doctor Who party) is always a popular option.

Make sure everyone dresses in costume. It makes the party a lot more fun.

Decorate. Basically, anything that looks high-tech is good. If it is hokey and homemade, that just makes the décor more “vintage.” Homemade laser pistols made out of laser pointers glued to squirtguns and covered in tinfoil are a good bet. Sinister mind control helmets can easily be made out of coat-hangers, tinfoil, wire, and LEDs. This is also a good time to proudly display any science fiction memorabila you own.

4
Get munchies and booze. An authentic science fiction party should probably feature Mountain Dew and Doritos, along with liquor and beer. Cook a healthy option if you want, but you can't go wrong with junk food.

Rent movies. If you have a theme, this gives you a good guide to what flicks to watch. Alternately, you can have your guests bring their favorite science fiction movies.
