How to Do The Step Touch in Jazz

The Step Touch is a very basic move in jazz dance. In fact, it's so basic that it's also commonly used in aerobics as a basic step to get people moving. The Step Touch has many variations. Be creative and come up with some of your own using the starting tips below.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Begin by standing with your feet together, toes facing front.
Step2
Pick up your right foot and take a large step to the right.
Step3
Bring your left foot to your right foot and shift your weight to your right foot.
Step4
Now pick up your left foot and take a large step to the left.
Step5
Bring your right foot to your left foot and shift your weight to your left foot.
Step6
Repeat over and over again as long as you like. Experiment with stride length, arm movements, pivots and body angle.

Tips & Warnings

  • Let your body stay loose and keep your knees bent.
  • <br>Listen to different songs as you practice. Different rhythms will affect your Step Touches differently.
  • Don't be self-conscious. Just enjoy the music and the movement.
