Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Find a moisturizer that is not harsh to your skin. Stay away from steroid-based moisturizers if at all possible. You will want to moisturize right after your shower or bath.
Step2
Consider the brand Skin Zinc. It is endorsed by some physicians. It can be expensive, so buy a small amount at first. If it works you can always get more. If you are concerned about price, try bidding on an auction site.
Step3
Try one of several OTC (over-the-counter) medicated type lotions that relieve itching; but you must apply several times a day. One brand is Eucerin. Apply to moist skin for the best effect. Try lotions with oatmeal such as Aveeno. Also try lotions with lavender, aloe vera, MSM or you can use body butter in harsh, dry climates.
Step4
Use a moisturizer with grape seed extract and/or natural essential oils.
Step5
Be proactive. Even if you do not itch or have any other symptoms at the time, applying lotion to affected areas before the need arises will ward off symptom flare up later on.
Step6
Consider soaking in an oatmeal bath to relieve itching and flare ups. This is a good practice, especially in winter, to calm dry, irritated skin.
